A challenging vertical scroller shoot-em-up. Stay on screen, and use upgrades to clear millions of them!

Aria being the happy free spirited mercenary she was, decided that the moon was a quality place to have a small picnic. Compiling together the best ham, cheese, and weaponry she blasted off in her awesome space ship. After landing on the dusty lunar surface she set out to find the perfect picnic spot. lindarthebard (Lindar Kelleigh Greenwood) 7 9 9 6 6 6 1 7 Inexplicably this game started working on my Mac and I don't understand why, but I finished the game queue and noticed I still hadn't rated this. It was a little frustrating to me that the enemies rank up faster than I could get money and get better stuff, and the lack of healing made it practically impossible to continue, but the graphics, gameplay, concept, metroidvania-esque nostalgia, the music, the sound effects... it was aesthetically a game I would really love to play more of, and I'm going to give it another shot later, but it could have been balanced much better. Top ten definitely.

japtar 10 10 6 3 9 9 4 9 As mentioned in the comments, I thought the upgrade system was brilliant. It adds a whole lot more strategy to the game, even if, by strategy, it's mostly trial and error. Great job in creating discovery through this mechanic as well. Well done.

Sorry, should be 32 bit. Should work on 64 bit machines though.

    @Jupiter_Hadley

Thanks for playing the game! However, I did notice in your video that you said 'R' was the upgrade button, and it wasn't implemented. Upgrades are implemented and the button is actually 'S', in case that wasn't discovered after.

Also with regards to the restart not working, the method does work, but it (stupidly) reloads all the assets again. If you're recording to the disk, I believe the disk I/O will probably slow it down to a complete crawl/freeze.

I definitely did not consider this, so let this be a lesson to any future developer :P.

Cool game, but it gets really hard. I included it in part 3 of my Bacon Game Jam 08 compilation video series, if you’d like to check it out! http://youtu.be/i6r4906Y3wE

Me and the rest of my team love this game! You did a great job balancing the damage output from the upgrades against the increasing number of enemies, gives you a feeling of progress and makes it hard to put down :)

Ehh, why do you write 64-bit linux? It seems to be 32-bit.

  • cedega (3 years ago)

The Linux version should be fixed now, but if someone could test it, that would be great.

  • cedega (3 years ago)

Thanks teddy for the assistance. I believe I've fixed the Mac version now, so please try it out.

As for Linux, it will be fixed as soon as I know which libraries were missing.

    Thanks for the support guys!

Same here, nothing launches on 10.10. No error messages. and logs seem to indicate successful execution of program:

20/10/2014 19:28:21.137 Lunar Spire[937]: App did finish launching

If you want to reach me on Skype I can help you get it running maybe - xoplague

I'm sorry to hear this! would it be possible to give me any sort of errors? It's the first time I've tried porting a game to other platforms.

  • lindarthebard (3 years ago)

This game looks REALLY cool, but the game won't run on my Mac (nothing happens when running the game) and the Linux version can't find the included libraries.

  • japtar (3 years ago)

I really, really like this game. The upgrade system was a clever idea, making the impossibly difficult to difficult, but fair game. Well done!
